How to choose your Alpine skis

To enjoy yourself and make the most of our beautiful mountains, your skis should be tailored to you. There is no such thing as a bad ski, it must simply be chosen to answer your specific needs and desires. To help you make your choice take into account these 3 main elements :
- Your area of use
- Your level
- Your morphology
Our area of the use : how you ski and where are your preferred stomping grounds. Are you a carving master, are you a snow park enthusiast, or do you prefer playing further away from home in of piste powder ?

Slope skis

You mostly enjoy carving your way down our stunning mountains on well groomed slopes. Skis with a thin underfoot width generally between 70 and 80 mm allowing quick and easy edge to edge movement, parabolic shaped, short as to be reactive and more manoeuvrable.

All mountain skis

You wish to explore the ski area from top to bottom regardless of the terrain. On groomed slopes, choppy snow and even close off piste. The skis are slightly larger underfoot ( 80 to 90 mm )this makes the ski more versatile, this type of ski should be taken longer for more speed and the tip is larger to allow a better floatability in deeper snow.

Freestyle skis

You spend most of your day jumping up every mogul and bump you can find, often on the snowpark grinding rails. This skis are roughly the same size as you, they are between 80 to 85 mm underfoot giving good stability when lining up a jump and on landing. Mostly twin-tiped to ski forwards and backwards, they are light and solid.

Freeride skis

You enjoy skiing in deep powder, off piste, away from the crowds. These skis are a lot larger under foot from 90 up to 120 mm. To float on all that deep snow these skis need more surface area and would generally be between 10 and 15 cm longer than you making them fast and stable.

Your level :
Beginners : 0 to 2 weeks of skiing, you're just starting to snowplough on green and blue slopes You need a light, manoeuvrable and easy ski. A ski with a foam core is sufficient.
- Intermediate : 2 to 5 weeks experience, you ski parallel and a can manage red slopes. You need a comfortable ski to allow you to progress, it must be forgiving and stable.
Advanced : 5 to 10 weeks experience. Usually parallel on all slopes you enjoy carving on groomed and choppy terrain. A dynamic ski, stiff, allowing for good grip on hard pack and comfort and stability at speed.
Expert : you know exactly what you're doing, a technical skier you are comfortable on all types of snow in all conditions.

A dynamic, powerful ski Then, depending on your weight and hight you may choose a ski adapted to your wishes. The materiel used in the ski will also have an impact on how it performs. A foam core will be softer and less powerful than wood, carbon or even titanium changing the way your skis will react an different terrains.
