Freeride ski rental

Freeride ski rental. Freeride skiing as defined by its FREE translation. Free and RIDE walk. Is carried out in the mountains and in the snow completely outside a planned and formal framework. This practice comes straight from the United States and has been known for several decades.

This ski is perfect if you are looking for the beautiful line and wide expanse of powder snow. Freeride skiing is perfect for skiers who feel cramped and limited on groomed slopes and for whom the standard black slope has not long been a challenge. Freeride skis open up whole new avenues.

Even though many freeride skis today are perfectly suited for the slopes. They certainly cannot be compared to slalom or racing carvers in terms of edge grip.

In fact the great strength of freeride skis is clearly to ski in deep snow. And they are therefore particularly suitable for skiers who are above all looking for adventure in nature. And only use the slope to get to the next gondola or ascent.

The 3 important criteria are:

The camber. Flat or inverted camber. Depending on the camber, the reaction of the ski will be different.

The width. Of the ski can be between 93mm to 110mm. The greater the width of the ski, the greater the lift of the ski in deep snow will be. So it will be easier and less tiring for the skier to stay on the surface. On the other hand, on the piste, the ski will be much less lively and less manageable.

The rocker. Can be with a big rocker in the front, or even a rocker in the back. A tip rocker will make it easier to lift off the ski in fresh snow and thus provide better flotation. While a rocker at the rear of the ski allows better maneuverability in powder.

Make your choice…

Your choice will depend on your style of practice 50% piste / off piste or 80% off piste.

As the freeride ski is very easy to turn anyway thanks to its pronounced rocker and should not be too short to provide the desired lift in powder, you should use your freeride ski at least body-length. If you wish, it can also be a little longer.

It is also preferable to opt for light but rigid skis so as not to have to make great efforts to lift the legs or to chain figures of speech. You need a good technical capability.

But this style of skiing requires a great deal of skiing experience with good basic conditions to safely enjoy a powder adventure. Those who are still a little unsure about skis should probably practice a few times on the edge of the slopes before venturing into the real big adventures.

For skis with a waist greater than 110mm (these are the widest skis on the market), called “FAT skis”. They are exclusively used for off-piste skiing. They provide a levitating effect in fresh snow. The skis are clearly freeride oriented and will be more difficult in hard snow.
